A choose-your-own-adventure story for engaging young Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal readers.
Bunjil, the Aboriginal deity who created the world and all living beings, needs assistance to help his animal friends. Readers are invited to go for a ‘walk on Country’ and choose a location, time and a ‘totem’ to help them on their quest. Teachers can use Bunjil’s Quest to introduce or support learning contexts related to Aboriginal culture as well as Australian animals.
Bunjil’s Quest was developed by the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET), to test the effectiveness of the choose-your-own adventure format for engaging young students, particularly Aboriginal students, to engage with reading. DET will seeking feedback on Bunjil’s Quest from Victorian teachers to inform development of future resources.
